And that’s a wrap on the Spring 2020 season! Yes that’s right! 2020! Now that the rooms are opening up at 100% again and mask-free we can have a championship! We will be restarting on Friday, April 30^th at Skip & Jan’s in Gilbert!

Congratulations to Anthony Begay, Alex Franklin & Kent Bybee of Cover the Spread from Flagstaff! Heading into the long awaited Spring 2020 AZPL State Championships they are your #1 ranked team! Coming in 2^nd place are the ACS State Champions Old Strokers – Jim Stein, Chief Manning, Eddie Buchan, James Brooks & Steve Heede from Skip & Jans. Dave Smith, Irwin Villanueva & Richard Chavez of You’re Done from Skip & Jan’s finished in 3^rd. In 4^th place was Dr J featuring Rick Albertsen, Justin King & Donald Hudgings from Skip & Jan’s. Those teams all have sweet 7pm start times in the Championships!

Congratulations to Skip Bales, Terry Lemke & Kevin KP Phillips of Tough Times from Globe & Joeneil Tolimao, Michael Bernabe & Frank the Legend Taylor of Lucky Roll, also from Globe for finishing 1^st in their respective divisions!

Congratulations to AZPL State MVPs John Gurung from Uptown Billiards & Heather Cortez from Skip & Jans! John outscored his oppenents by 121 points! Congratulations to points leader Terry Lemke of Tough Times! Eddie Buchan from the Old Strokers led the league in scoring percentage at .983 scoring 118 of 120 possible and winning percentage at .917 with an 11-1 record! Terry Lemke & Steve Key led the league in wins with 24. Joe Zack who scored his 10,000 point this season! Skip Bales & Eric McKay both scored their 9,000^th points! Donald Hudgings & Eric Danielson Sr both scored their 8,000^th points! Rick Albertsen & Steve Key both scored their 7,000^th point! Scoring their 6,000^th points were Ernie Encizo, Ryan Levengood, Eric Danielson Jr and Albert Sanchez Sr. Mike Chapa scored his 5,000^th point! Jessica Lownsberry & Chris Gibson both scored their 4,000^th point. Reaching the 3,000 point plateau are Maggie Boone, Frank Taylor & Michael Bernabe. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone again at the AZPL State Championships on April 30, May 1 & 2! On Friday night we will begin play at 6pm with the Wild Card tournament! Any teams not in the top 31 are qualified for this tournament!

How teams qualify for the State Championship tournament:

Teams play in the league to qualify for the State Championships. Only 32 teams will qualify. All teams play on 7' Diamond tables. First place in the Championships is . For teams that lose twice on Saturday in the Championships fear not as we have a 3rd elimination bracket that plays out on the 9' tables on Sunday for !

To win the Wild Card Tournament and become the 32nd team in the State Championships you must go undefeated in a single-elimination team tournament that starts at 6pm on Friday. It's still 3 on 3 but it's a race to 3 wins! Whichever team wins 3 games advances! Final 2 teams play a full 9-game match for the 32nd spot in the tournament!

Scotch Doubles/Singles Tournament - 7:00pm, sign up starts at 6pm! (2)

Players team up in a blind draw scotch doubles tournament to start on the 9’ tables! When you lose on the scotch side you ditch your partner and flip into a singles tournament on the 7’ tables. The final two players on the loser’s side team up to take on the scotch winners. It's a race to the 8 in every round. $10 entry! Limit 64 players!

8-Ball Break & Run Derby - 7:00pm, sign up starts at 6pm! (3)

Players compete by breaking & running out the table! Every player racks their own. You get one freebie shot on the break meaning you don't have to make one on the break to continue shooting. However, if you scratch your turn is over with 0. An 8-ball break counts as 20 points. After that every ball you make counts as a point. It doesn't matter what you shoot at - be it solids or stripes - as long as the 8-ball is the last ball. Once you successfully make the 8 you'll re-rack the balls and break. You MUST make a ball on this break to continue shooting. Once you miss a shot your turn is over. If you hit an 8-ball break during the season the 1st one is good for double points in the opening round, the 2nd & subsequent ones are good for a do-over. There are 3 ways to become eligible for this event:

Be in the Top 3 league leaders for 8 ball breaks!! Be the league leader for 15-0s! Buy your way in! $10 entry!

9-Ball/10-Ball Tournament on the 9-foot Tables - 7:00pm, sign up starts at 6pm! (4)

10-Ball Race to 2 on the winners side, 9-Ball race to 2 on the losers side - $10 entry Limit 16 players!

Ladies 8-Ball Singles on the 7s! – 7:00pm, sign up starts at 6pm! (5)

It’s a race to 2 on the winner’s side & a race to the 8 on the back side as the women of the AZPL compete to see who’s the best! 16-player limit, $10 entry!
